2008: Fake leishmaniasis medicine in Bangladesh

Falsified versions of generic miltefosine capsules for the treatment of visceral leishmaniasis (black fever), a fatal parasitic disease, were administered to hundreds of patients in Bangladesh. Dutch doctors uncovered the case and later assays proofed the complete absence of the active pharmaceutical ingredient.
